Here we will place helpful stuff both on this page and on drop-down links from the Menu on this page.
This being obtained from our many years of trouble-shooting!

Be careful of shop overhangs when you pull into car park spaces. It is easy to catch the canopy of your Motorhome

Incorrect Fuelling is surprisingly common. More info on our FAQ page!

The Road headed from Tekapo to Twizel can be dangerous and often people are caught speeding there. Be especially alert when travelling on this Road.

For manual vehicles with Clutches, be careful not to rest your foot on the Clutch when not in use. Owners can try to claim repair costs if it is considered driver error

Make sure you turn off the Gas Bottles when driving. In an accident if the hose gets severed and the gas is on then you can imagine the result

Excessive use of the Brakes cause them to become hot and then ineffective.
We had one client on the Crown Range between Queenstown and Wanaka use the brakes all the way down the hill and when they got to the T-section at the bottom of the hill, their brakes did not work and they crashed their van. Larger vans have engine/exhaust brakes which should be used whenever possible.

New Zealand has plenty of Narrow Bridges. Mirrors and Waste Outlets are popular for getting knocked off/damaged.
If in doubt due to the size of your motorhome it is best to wait for a clear run across these bridges to avoid any damage being caused.

New Zealand is generally safe, however do not leave unattended valuables in plain view. There are opportunists who could smash glass to gain entry to your vehicle

Be careful of Car Parks. There is often a height limit bar and it is easy to forget this and catch the canopy of your Motorhome

The Road headed from Fairlie through to the Lindes Pass (headed to Queenstown) after Mt Cook is notorious for high winds. Be very careful if you are driving a high top van!

Ice is common in the winter on the roads. Take care when braking! Motorhomes have slid on the ice and toppled over on more than one occasion

Dashboard Lights.....keep an eye out for any lights turning orange or worse turning red.
These should immediately reported to Roadside Assistance.
An Owner can try to claim repair costs if it is considered you drove on further with the lights showing.
If the oil light shows up then immediately pull over and call Roadside Assistance and check the oil level (take a photo maybe a good idea) and note any obvious oil leaks. Engines can quickly seize if the oil runs dry and the Owner can try to claim the repair costs from the Hirer.

Make sure you wind down Roof Vents before travelling. In windy conditions they can easily be ripped off and you will be responsible for replacement costs.

Make sure you always have your motorhome keys on your person when leaving the vehicle. If you get locked out in a remote area it can be an expensive call-out for you.

The maximum speed limit for Motorhomes is 90kph. If you see a queue building behind, make sure you pull over at the first opportunity. Drivers are known to take risks to overtake and it is best to try to avoid an accident!
